I’m breaking the Belgium theme just once.
Arlette Téphany sings Je n’aime que moi (I only love myself), by French writer, poet, musician, singer, translator, critic, actor, inventor, engineer Boris Vian.
Appropriate lyrics, don’t you think?
On me reproche de n’aimer personne
Je n’ me sens jamais seule
Je m’aime
Je me tiens compagnie
Ma glace
Quand un autre regarde
Grimace
Viens donc me voir
Je t’aime
Ne t’y fie pas surtout
Je t’aime
Mais je m’aime avant tout! But since not everybody can understand French, I’ll help you out with a mediocre translation of my own.
They reproach me for not loving anyone
They tell me it’s ugly and I have no heart
Everyone berates me, everyone slaps me
But I do not care, they do not scare me
I love myself
I never feel alone
I love myself
I keep myself company
My mirror
When someone else looks
Grimaces
But to me it smiles
I don’t know why they say
That a girl gets bored all by herself
I never get bored, I just go to bed
This is the good life
I love myself
I don’t need you
I love myself
And that won’t leave anyone jealous
One man, one day, will come into my life
For my body he will want to keep me
I know them, that I tempt them
But I don’t care and I can give it up
I love myself
Don’t bother to wait for me
Even when
I stop following you
I love myself
With myself I’m tender
I love myself
But nobody else!
Perhaps some depressing evening
If I meet a nice boy
I might tell him without hesitation
“Come see me”
I love you
Above all, don’t count on it
I love you
But I love myself first!Happy Valentine’s Day!

Kochia Hill, Hitachinaka City, Japan:
Among the fields of cosmos, zinnia, spider lilies and pampas grass, the hill filled with kochia – or summer cypress, broom cypress, if not burning bush – is perhaps the most rare and eye-catching to see in Japan. The hill of this fluffy-looking (but actually quite prickly) shrub, more often seen on brooms than on the ground in eastern Asia, creates a peculiar yet attractive view in autumn when the branches and stems turn bright red. Here, visitors are welcome to walk among the bushes and climb to the top of the hill to get a nice view down the red hill and across the large park.
